Wonder by RJ Palacio and bookshare.org

Mr. Bright side is reading Wonder by RJ Palacio. This book is about a 10 year old boy named August who has sevre facial deformities. The book opens with August starting school for the first time after being homeschooled his entire life. August is such a sweet and real character that my son is really identifying with. My son has invisble disabilities and the themes of feeling different from others and the struggle to fit in hits home for us.

We just learned of a fabulous service called https://www.bookshare.org The website has thousands of books that can be downloaded so that people with print disabilities can read the book on their computer or ipad or other portable device. Bascially the book is read to you while the words are highlighted so you can read along while you listen. If your child has an IEP for a specific learning disability that affects reading you may qualify for a FREE membership, if not it's an annual cost of $50. We are waiting for our free membership to be approved. Once we have more experince with the site I'll be posting more about it.
